Co-founded CES Consulting in 1999.

Before that he spent 12 years in the workers’ compensation industry, at companies including Mercantile Mutual and QBE.

He learned about workers’ compensation from all angles – government, insurer, regulator – across every state. More recently he has worked closely with employers to establish incident and injury management programs. Now he uses his experience to help businesses understand and manage their risks.

“Our job is to provide our clients with the clarity to make clinical outcome based decisions rather than those based on emotion or the short term”, he is often heard saying.

When not at work, you’ll often find Shayne chasing around after his two young sons and the family’s pet whippet.

He is a keen sports fan, a frustrated chef, disenchanted political observer and (very secretly) the lover of a good cup of tea.

James worked at the Accident Compensation Commission (now WorkSafe), before joining one of the insurers in the early 90’s before moving to Mildura in 1995 to head up the local branch.

He returned to Melbourne in 1998 as Mercantile Mutual’s State Development Manager and joined CES Consulting in 2002.

He is hell bent on assisting employers to improve outcomes. His legislative knowledge and ability to identify various solutions to a problem make him an asset to our clients.

James is married with a daughter, Hannah. He’s a die-hard North Melbourne fan and has been going to games since the days you could go on the ground for the huddles at quarter-time and three-quarter time.

He’s also a mad-keen golfer, and loves scuba diving. A favourite spot in Port Phillip Bay is Lonsdale Wall, a 40m drop off the coast of Queenscliff. The bay’s marine life and corals are amazing.

Darren has enjoyed a varied career in the WorkCover industry.

He worked as a claims officer for Victoria Police for four years before joining WorkCover Compensation Services. Then, with Craig (now retired), Shayne and James he was amongst the first engaged to help set up the newly established Mercantile Mutual Melbourne Worker Agency.

Darren left Victoria to become a damages case manager for WorkCover Queensland, a role that involved liaising closely with lawyers and barristers.
He returned to Victoria in 2002 and joined CES Consulting in 2005.

Darren loves renovating. For three years in the early 2000s, he took a break from his career to do up houses in Brisbane.

He also enjoys boating, fishing, skiing and gardening.
